Utilizing a microcourse for bite-sized accessibility training

Jump to section

Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), a leading professional organization representing the management of business events worldwide, boasts over 8,400 members across 37 countries. PCMA’s commitment to excellence led to the collaboration with Desklight to refresh and repackage the content in their current accessibility course.

The Challenge

PCMA aimed to revamp their accessibility course, optimizing it for a compliance-focused audience while maintaining the essence of inclusivity and accessibility. The goal was to leverage existing content – including language, video, and voice elements – and repackage it into bite-sized modules, providing learners with practical strategies for empathetic interaction, prompt accommodation, and effective problem-solving.

The Process

Desklight partnered with PCMA to develop a unique micro-course designed to equip on-site event staff with essential skills to create inclusive and accessible environments at every event. The collaborative effort involved restructuring scenarios, videos, and knowledge checks into bite-sized modules. The course focused on meaningful interactions, quick identification and accommodation of diverse needs, effective problem-solving, and confident implementation of emergency procedures.

Our contributions included:
