Hopelab is a social innovation lab committed to supporting and improving the health and happiness of young people through co-created interventions grounded in behavioral science and human-centered design. In partnership with CenterLink, Hopelab launched Project Milk in January 2020, a digital tool to support LGBTQ+ youth in navigating the day-to-day experience of growing up queer. Hopelab invited Desklight to conduct a one-week design sprint to create a curricular strategy focused on non-crisis oriented mental health and well-being.
Our task was to help the Hopelab team explore and develop criteria for ideal curricular flow through taxonomy structures, content dosage, pacing, navigation, and engagement patterns. We began by taking a deep dive into existing research, prototypes, and early user testing results to identify baseline design criteria. Our team then brainstormed a series of content structures, high-level pedagogical approaches, curriculum architectures, and strategies for increased interactivity and connectivity. We were able to analyze options and refine them based on their appropriateness against identified design criteria and psychological targets. As a result, we were able to propose a comprehensive curriculum strategy that connected key content areas and delivery approaches to a macro-level learning framework.
This work wrapped up with a presentation of curriculum design options and recommendations to the Hopelab team.
