In 2019, the IIT Institute of Design (ID) embarked on a research project which explored the role of design in larger organizations. Nearly one year and dozens of interviews later, ID had compiled their research into a 50-page document, known internally as Pathways. While ID had put forth a strong case for the critical function of design within businesses, they needed a professional polish to share their findings on a global scale.

Desklight worked hand in hand with the ID team to design an attention-grabbing long-form report for Pathways. The end result was the 50-page Lead with Purpose: Design’s central role in realizing executive vision.

Art Direction

Lead with Purpose needed to be two things: beautiful and informative. Desklight balanced a design-centric aesthetic with consistent type treatment to create an engaging, easy-to-use reading experience.

Infographic Design

Desklight lead the data visualization and infographic design to intuitively convey core concepts throughout the report.

Microsite Development

With the report polished and ready for a national audience, Desklight led the design and development of a simple, branded landing page within ID’s site.

Be The Change

Outcome

ID released the report to the world in early 2020, and attracted attention from industry players right out of the gate. Fortune magazine released a feature on the report, which highlighted the need for design’s elevated role across industries: “No longer just there to pretty up products and services, design can become a force to define both what a company does and how it functions.”
